Outdoor Summer Fun with your pets!

posted in: Pet Tips 0

Heat affects pets just as much, if not more than it does us!  When walking your dogs (or even cats!), PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REMEMBER that paws WILL burn!  If it’s too hot for your bare feet, then it’s too hot for theirs!!!!

Tips:

  • Walk your pets early in the morning or late in the evenings when the sun isn’t so hot if possible
  • Find shady places to walk
  • Take cold water for you and your pets
  • Try to walk on grass or mulch areas avoiding asphalt & pavement as much as possible
  • Avoid BLACK asphalt whenever possible. It heats up faster than all other types of pavement, gets hotter & stays hotter much longer
  • Take breaks often, in the shade, offering your pets cold water & allowing them time to cool off
  • Get a portable pet/kiddie pool – fill it with cold water, ice cubes, or plastic balls & let your pups have a blast!!!!
  • Turn on the sprinkler & let the pups play
  • Gear – just like checking your smoke detectors regularly, you should also take a look at your pet’s gear. Look for signs of wear & tear, improper fit, etc. – just like us, our pets gain & lose weight so we need to make sure their collars, harnesses, kennels/crates, etc are fitting properly.

For ideas on some of the items discussed in this blog post, take a look at my Red Dog Pet Services shopping list on Amazon. I am always adding new items that I have tried & love. I don’t get any kind of $$$ for recommending them. It’s just my personal growing list of pet products that I wanted to share with my followers & clients.
